Life Outside of Yoga

Rose (the good): Ya girl graduated!! I completed my B.A. in Psychology this past December, and its kind of a big deal. Not just because I now have my degree, but because this was a 10yr effort. Like they say, its a marathon, not a race.

Thorn (the bad): Lately, I've been grieving. I recently lost a close friend of mine in a sudden and unexpected passing. Since then, its been painstakingly clear that my relationships are just...not the same as they once were. And I've been grieving that too....

Bud (the hope): I'm looking forward to picking up subbing at some public schools soon. I feel lucky to have some sort of income, flexibility, and benefits subbing. I can't wait to be engaging with kids and youth again! This is something I realized I value.

What I'm Into Lately

Reading: Rest Is Resistance: A Manifesto by Tricia Hersey. Also available as an audiobook on Spotify for free (with premium)!

I'm re-reading this in preparation for a class I was asked to lead for programming at an art gallery. The exhibition, Rich in What They Can't Measure curated by Jasmine Gabrielle Washington, asks us to re-examine value and how it's assigned. My class was inspired by works featured in the exhibit, specifically one called A Place of Rest by Melissa Sutherland Moss. This piece and exhibition reminded me of Tricia Hersey's book because it recenters rest as a source of wealth among other things.

Watching: SO MANY THINGS!!! But what has really helped me navigate the grieving process has been comedy. My friend, Jada, was a joyful person filled with laughs and nothing but jokes! So, watching Death at a Funeral on Pluto felt so fitting for sooo many reasons, as crazy as it sounds.

Listening to: Life has been A LOT! As Buddy says in one of his songs, "I been going through some real life sh--". So, I've been listening to rap, classical, and singer-songwriter.
