GEMS for G.E.M.s : Stretch Zone or Stretched Thin?
Diamond Bruns | OCT 5, 2024

Hey G.E.M.s,
I sincerely hope you are growing and exploring new successes and failures along your journey. If you have that hustler spirit like I do, then you're constantly looking for ways to pivot and propel yourself forward. Like, "Let me see how far I/this can go" and sometimes this "push through" mentality will quite literally push you over the edge.
--ENTER THE 3 ZONES! (make sure to follow us on IG) Let's explore these psychological states more.
Exactly as it sounds, you know what to expect in this psychological zone. Nothing is challenging or pushing you to grow, you are completely comfortable, secure, and safe. In this zone, we stick to what we know and maintain the status quo. I liken this to a passive restorative yoga practice.
There are times when we need to prioritize our comfort and safety. For example, making decisions that keep money in the bank account and avoiding any new risks to survive. And that's really what the comfort zone is about, survival.
However, you sacrifice learning new things about yourself and the world, you sacrifice new experiences that enrich your life and encourage you to dream.
The stretch zone is where you grow and learn. It relies on the confidence and security built in your comfort zone while facing new challenges. Yes, you may be fearful but there is still a sense of safety as you are growing in this zone. Do it scared sis!
For example, taking the first step to open your first business! You are relying on the talents you have in a particular area to try something new. Your undeniable talent and gifts are your safety, your comfort zone in the situation, while the act of opening your first business is something new.
I liken this to practicing yoga poses during our sunrise sessions.
Uh-Uhnn, no, shut it DOWN. That's exactly what this psychological zone is. You might shut down in certain ways, become irritable, or seriously contemplate quitting etc. You've overstepped your capacity/capabilities to handle this challenge in a healthy manner. The panic zone is one of intense overwhelm. NOT FUN.
Because your body and mind are in a state of intense overwhelm, you cannot receive the benefits of the stretch zone. You have stretched past your limits and are stretched thin.
This can look like burnout, anxiety or panic attacks, increased aggressiveness, and decreased patience towards our surroundings.
It is crucial to know where you stand in your business efforts. I encourage you to make growth your goal. Rely on comfort when necessary to rebound from the panic zone. That way you can re-enter the stretch zone and avoid being stretched thin.
Next blog, PART 2: "Getting Out of the Panic Zone"
Sincerely,
